Time to deliver: 2 hours depending on the ability of the group. This lesson focussing on Product Design sketches. It begins with how to generate intial idea sketches that can be used to develop into a final product using isometric sketching techniques. Resources included are a work booklet and powerpoint. I have used this resource to assist a lot of low ability lessons and used it with gifted and talented pupils to refine their skills. Pupils will gain a clearer understanding of the importance of using PPE during current times and how it can/cannot be effective. It is an opportunity for them to have a safer knowledge of how to remain safe.

A stand alone lesson covering the three main types of typography. Classroom activities, expectations and videos all embedded. A lesson that has been enjoyed by all years whether learning content for the first time or revision for GCSE exams. Attached is a work sheet that complements the work set. This is a lesson on the forces that act upon aeroplanes. Paper planes are designed and made in a design and make task that allows pupils to see how the different designs of a paper plane or aeroplane allow them to work differently. It shows the engineering considerations and how developments of products can alter how they work. This is designed as a stand alone lesson but may be part of a physics or engineering scheme of work to show the workings of forces and products. Attached are the golden rules that will help pupils achieve the best grades.
This resources is prepared as part a need for a new design brief. Pupils explore world issues in order to understand what they need to learn so that they can design relevant products. A starter activity allows pupils to see how products progress and explore developments in design. The lesson then looks at the need for a new design in prosthetic limbs. Resources are supplied as well as golden rules of the classroom. This is aimed at YEAR 9 classes but would be easily adapted into a GCSE lesson
This booklet acts as a scheme of work that is aimed to introduce pupils to basic metal working as well as working within a linear design process. We encourage that you use iteration in the designing stage of this alongside cardboard models to ensure that you are meeting the expectations of the GCSE exams board. I have taught this project to good results and making something that is of a professional standard. Ideal for any career insight into industrial process as well as understanding the way in which metals can be used to create a desirable product. For this project to be run successfuly you will need:

Steel saucepan
Bunsen burner with tripod/hob
Sheet wood i.e laser ply or MDF
2D Design on computers accessible for the each pupil.
There are kits available from many craft shops but i found that i could use a lot of the things that we already had available in the department. The pewter is suitable for being melted down many times over so waste is minimal. Once bought and you would like a editable version of this resource please contact me once you have paid for the resource.
Pupils will use basic hand tools to create a birdhouse that requires now fixtures or adhesive. This simple contemporary design means that pupils will be able to create and assemble there own birdhouse ready to take home. This resource includes the booklet that we have been using with our year 7 groups as well as the cutting files that we have used to produce the materials for pupils to cut using a coping saw. We recommend using 3mm Plywood but there is no reason that this wouldn’t work with 3mm MDF either. This booklet includes:

These 6 week long lessons are designed for Y7-Y9. Each scheme of learning is designed to be put onto an e-learning platform such as Google Classroom with as little instruction as possible. Encouraging an independent learning style from your pupils to create professional level products.
Designed as an introductory scheme of learning to CAD/CAM and laser cutting pupils, this 6 hour scheme of learning has everything you need to design and make a professional quality clock. Pupils will be able to independently use Techsoft 2D desgin to create tool path that can be used to laser cut a clock. Using Quartz clock mechanisms pupils will then learn how to write an advert and retail their clocks to a target audience. With all handouts, instructions and step-by-step guidance to ensure success and progress in all pupils this unit of work has been designed to be delivered within a single term.
